DRY NEEDLING

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a technique that involves inserting fine needles into muscle tissue in order to stimulate blood flow and trigger healing. It has been shown to be effective for treating many types of chronic pain, including neck, back, shoulder, knee, ankle, and foot pain.

Dry needling is a proven and effective treatment for tight muscles, sore muscles, and reduced performance. It releases endorphins that cause natural narcotic-like pain relief, reduces lactic acid build up, and minimizes muscle soreness after exercise.

Dry needling uses acupuncture needles to penetrate the skin and into muscles and soft tissue, allowing direct stimulation of myofascial trigger points. You may have described these myofascial trigger points as a “knot,” “pinch,” or “crick" in your body.

The stimulus created by dry needling helps the nervous system relax the muscle and decrease sensitivity of pain receptors. It also restarts the natural healing processes of the body, helping areas experiencing chronic pain to move out of the inflammatory stage of healing. Most individuals will experience significant relief within a few hours, up to a day after treatment and are often able to return to regular daily activities without restrictions.

If you are suffering from chronic or acute pain, tightness, or discomfort, dry needling is certainly a treatment worth considering.
